Meet this year’s ABSW Media Fellows
1 September 2023
UCL Global Engagement is supporting two UCL academics to be part of the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) Media Fellowship scheme 2023.
Two UCL academics, Oksana Pyzik and Dr Niall Jeffrey, have been selected for the 2023 Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) Media Fellowship scheme, an initiative endorsed by UCL Global Engagement. This esteemed fellowship, formerly directed by the British Science Association, offers scientists the chance to intimately work with renowned media institutions such as the Guardian and the BBC Science Unit.
While the fellowship strives to foster a harmonious relationship between journalists and scientists, Oksana, a respected global health advisor and lecturer at UCL School of Pharmacy, is particularly notable. She spearheads UCL’s Fight the Fakes campaign, collaborates as a WHO expert on substandard medical products, and has initiated educational projects across several African countries.
Highlighting the significance of pharmacist representation in media, Oksana, who recently began her Guardian’s science desk placement, advocates for a stronger pharmacist presence in mainstream media discussion.
