The European Paediatric Formulation Initiative (EuPFI) 15th Annual Conference on ‘Formulating Better Medicines for Children’ in partnership with the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) was held on 19th - 21st September 2023 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Established in 2007 as a collaborative initiative between industry, academia, regulatory and hospital members, EuPFI consortium led by UCL, serves as a vital bridge between academic and industrial research in the realm of paediatric formulations.

With more than 150 delegates from 21 countries, the conference fostered productive discussions on leveraging recent innovations and progress in global paediatric medicine development. Distinguished scientists from prestigious institutions  worldwide presented scientific talks, shedding light on key aspects of paediatric formulation research.

Professor Catherine Tuleu (EuPFI Chair, UCL School of Pharmacy) expressed, "The focus of EuPFI is to encourage collaborative ideas for better drug products tailored to children. This conference serves as a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and to influence the future of paediatric formulations to meet children’s specific needs”.

In Glasgow, 48 posters were displayed, providing a forum for students and early-career scientists to communicate their research, ideas, and findings. In a bid to encourage aspiring scientists to present their research in future conferences, three poster presentations were selected for Best Poster Presentation Awards, generously sponsored by Professional Compounding Center of America (PCCA). Notably, two of the awardees were MSc students from UCL School of Pharmacy: Eleanor Dakin and Sikai Wang.

Dr. Smita Salunke, EuPFI Chief Scientific Officer and Supervisor of the awarded students, remarked, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Eleanor and Sikai for their awards. They have not only brought immense pride to UCL but have also showcased the boundless potential of our local talent on the global stage. I believe their success will serve as a potent source of inspiration and motivation for our upcoming cohort of MSc students.”
