21 February 2023

To mark the 180th anniversary of the School of Pharmacy, each department has hosted a series of talks and socials to celebrate the achievements across practice, pharmaceutics, chemistry and pharmacology.

The student body was challenged to create a poster that reflects the rich history of SOP and its global community.

Stella Fu (Year 3 MPharm student and UCL Fight the Fakes Student Lead) and Dorothea Tang (Year 3 MPharm student and UCL PharmAlliance Student Lead) collaborated to create the winning poster (see below) illustrating the timeline of key events that have shaped the School of Pharmacy which is currently displayed in the Square Lounge and and will be used to promote events linked to this historical anniversary.

The students also received a “The School of Pharmacy University of London. Medicine, Science and Society, 1842-2012” by Briony Hudson, and £50 GBP amazon voucher awarded by Professor Cate Whittlesea, the first female Interim Director of the UCL School of Pharmacy.

A poster that describes the history of the UCL School of Pharmacy from its inception in 1842 to the present day.

As the oldest pharmacy school in the UK, founded by the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1842, we have over 180 years of experience and tradition throughout which it has retained its identity as a specialist institution dedicated to teaching and research in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences. UCL is currently rated 4th in the world by QS Rankings (Pharmacy and Pharmacology 2022).
