Professor Lythgoe was awarded the prestigious IET Achievement Medal for a major and distinguished contribution in Medical Imaging. The award was presented at the ‘Engineering Oscars’ by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, which is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions.

Commenting on his award, Professor Lythgoe said: “I have been very fortunate to work with some truly exceptional colleagues here at UCL who are developing the next generation of imaging systems for patient care.”

“As Director of the Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI), we have pioneered developments in imaging neurodegeneration, cancer and cardiac disease. Part of our ongoing research is now centred around a new device that combines both diagnosis and therapy into a single theranostic MRI system.”

“I’m hugely honoured to have received this award, and immensely grateful to the many colleagues that have contributed to the development and success of CABI and the new imaging technologies”

During his Directorship of the Cheltenham Science Festival, it has become one of the largest science festivals in the world.
