University College London (UCL) and New Giza University (NGU) have jointly announced the renewal of their multi-disciplinary pioneering partnership; reinforcing their commitment to advancing educational opportunities and fostering academic excellence. The collaboration between UCL and NGU is set to drive further transformative changes at NGU and in Egypt's higher education landscape, benefiting both students and academia.

UCL and NGU have been working closely together for over seven years to support the establishment of new undergraduate education programmes in dentistry, medicine and pharmacy. Each new programme has now successfully graduated distinguished cohorts of NGU students who are successfully serving the health sciences workforce and local community.

Dr Ahmed Sameh Farid, President of NGU said: “NGU has been in an academic collaboration with UCL since 2016, during this collaboration NGU received mentorship and support in different aspects such as strategic planning, setting up appropriate infrastructure and education governance structures, developing curricula and learning resources.

"Together we have reached a significant milestone in our collaboration, and we are keen to extend and grow this successful collaboration and take it to a higher level. Today, a new era in our collaboration is about to start, addressing the new NGU vision, facing future challenges in healthcare education, research and practice. This is a reflection of transformation through collaboration.”

The next phase of this visionary education collaboration will encompass rigorous quality management and improvement initiatives in each of the three undergraduate programmes. This includes focused support in assessment and curriculum advancement and comprehensive faculty and staff development. By pooling their strengths and expertise, the institutions are committed to providing a diverse, enriching learning environment for students - while advancing the frontiers of knowledge and expertise in the health sciences.

Professor Ahmed Rashid, Vice Dean (International) Faculty of Medical Sciences, Head of Centre, UCL Centre for International Medical Education Collaborations, and UCL lead for Medicine said: “It has been a privilege to work with the leadership team at New Giza University to help them establish three pioneering new undergraduate healthcare programmes. We are delighted to have secured this agreement and look forward to continuing the collaboration and supporting the New Giza University School of Medicine on the next stage of its exceptional journey.”

Professor Cate Whittlesea, Director of the UCL School of Pharmacy and UCL lead for Pharmacy said: "I and colleagues at the UCL School of Pharmacy are delighted to be entering the next phase of our collaboration with the NGU School of Pharmacy. We look forward to working together to develop and further enhance the initial training of pharmacists in Egypt."

Professor Stephen Porter, Director of the UCL Eastman Dental Institute and UCL lead for Dentistry said: "The continued collaboration between UCL and New Giza University offers new opportunities to further the growth of education and research initiatives in the field of Dentistry. This partnership will focus on quality of education to ensure students have an unparalleled educational journey. We are thrilled to begin this work with our NGU partners in Dentistry and to be supporting them to realise their vision in this next phase."

The renewed UCL / NGU education collaboration efforts will boost the number of highly skilled health sciences graduates in Egypt, focused on delivering healthcare to diverse populations. The partnership promotes cross-cultural exchanges, knowledge sharing, and international cooperation in health sciences education between the UK and Egypt.
