Scope and content
This collection consists of the first issues of a variety of magazines, newspapers, professional and special interest journals, serving a varied readership that included women and children. They date from the mid-19th to early 20th century. The subjects include the Boer Wars, Empire, Citizenship, First World War as well as story-telling, poetry, music and related subjects.
History
The collection was put together by Major William Wilson Grantham (1866-1942), one time Deputy Chairman of the London County Council. The collection was deposited at County Hall in 1933; it was then transferred to the IOE, along with other materials from the Inner London Education Authority, in 1990.
