Academic communication support and resources at UCL

There is a range of services and resources available across UCL to support you with your academic writing and speaking.

UCL Academic Communication Centre (ACC)

The UCL Academic Communication Centre is a support service to enhance UCL students’ discipline-specific writing and speaking skills. The ACC works closely with UCL faculties to develop tailored workshops and tutorials for native and non-native English speakers.

The Writing Lab

The Writing Lab is a service offered through the ACC which provides support in academic writing and research skills for students in Arts & Humanities and Social & Historical Sciences, the Bartlett, and Psychology & Language Sciences (PALS).

IOE Academic Writing Centre

The IOE Academic Writing Centre provides support for IOE students in the form of short courses (face-to-face and online), one-to-one tutorials (face-to-face, Skype or phone), online discussion forums and online resources.

Language + Writing Support Programme, Students' Union UCL

The Language + Writing Support programme is run by the Students' Union UCL for international students. Peer Tutors run different activities to assist non-native English speaking students with their academic writing and speaking.

Library Skills @ UCL

UCL Library Services provide face-to-face training and online learning resources to support you with your academic writing and research, including workshops on how to evaluate, reference and manage information.

Introduction to Academic Integrity

Introduction to Academic Integrity is a short Moodle course to develop good academic practice, which includes information on plagiarism, how to reference accurately and where to find sources and support.

The Survey of English Usage features a series of mobile apps, available for iOS and Android, including: academic writing, spelling and punctuation, and grammar.
