Institute of Education

Academic Writing Centre

Supporting students in education studies.

Director: Professor Lesley Gourlay

Our centre provides support for UCL Institute of Education (IOE) students in the form of workshops, webinars, one-to-one tutorials, writing retreats and online resources. Our sessions and resources are specifically designed to support academic writing in Education and related disciplines.

We support both home and international students, and also offer pre-sessional support to students who have yet to commence their study at the Institute.

The Academic Writing Centre made a huge difference to my experience studying at the IOE. Their classes really helped me develop my writing and I improved my ability to understand and critique my reading. I feel like I got more out of it as a result. They were one of the best parts of my whole MA. - Nina, Early Years Education MA

Workshops and webinars

Two-hour workshops and one-hour webinars, which support Academic Writing development.

One-, two- or three-day writing retreats scheduled throughout the academic year and summer. A structured space is provided in which you can complete your writing in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, sharing writing challenges and progress with peers.
