International Clinical Trials Day at UCLH

UCLH will be celebrating International Clinical Trials Day on 20 May with information stalls, tours and activities across the trust.

Patients and the public will be able to find out about clinical research, including trials happening at UCLH. There will be opportunities for the public to say what research should be happening, and more important information on how patients can get involved in research.

This year Clinical Trials Day at UCLH will also be celebrating the 10th birthday of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the government body that coordinates and funds research for the NHS,

The following locations will be open to patients and the public:

University College Hospital 2-4pm, Ground floor atrium, 235 Euston Road, NW1 2BU Visitors can have a go at research experiments and games, and find out information about how they can get actively involved in the design and conduct of research.

Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre (LWENC), 12-4pm, Ground Floor, Albany Wing, National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, Queen Square, WC1N 3BG Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the state of the art facility and meet the clinical research staff. Key note speakers, including Dr Vincenzo Libri, Head of the LWENC, who will give an overview of the facility; and Sarah Ezekiel who will talk about a patients perspective of clinical research, will be on from 2pm.

Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital 9.30am-1pm and 1.45-4.30pm in the Nuffield paediatric waiting area, 330 Gray's Inn Road, WC1X 8DA Visitors can have a go at a hearing loss and cochlear implant simulator, take part in quizzes about ear research and having their say in what they would like researchers to investigate.

Eastman Dental Hospital, 12-2pm at Palm Court, 256 Gray's Inn Road, WC1X 8LD Visitors can find out information about clinical trials that have been run and find out information about how they can get actively involved in the design and conduct of research.

This year stalls will be stressing its "OK to ask" about clinical research. This campaign, led by the NIHR, encourages patients to ask their doctor, nurse or consultant about research opportunities available to them.
