Media guidelines for researchers now up

Researchers are reminded that they need to be careful of any media coverage of ongoing studies and they are advised to consult with their sponsor before agreeing to any coverage.

Media coverage of ongoing studies, especially of those which are still recruiting volunteers, raises ethical issues and could jeopardise the study. This is especially the case where the media want to interview a patient.

If researchers are approached by the media or if they wish to approach the media, they are advised in the first instance to contact the sponsor of the trial and the communications department of the trust whose patients are involved.
