Updated version of IRAS to be released

16 November 2012

An updated version of the IRAS (Integrated Research Application System) will be released in the coming weeks while further work on NRES and MHRA e-submission remains on hold pending review and further decisions.

This upcoming IRAS version will contain a package of important updates including the IRAS Project Number being made visible in project navigation and My Projects page; revision of NHS Site Specific Information (SSI) form question 23; and the incorporation of industry guidance on Phase 1 studies as a new question in the dataset.

The date of this IRAS version update will be announced shortly. Please see the HRA and IRAS websites for further announcements about this release.

In August 2012, the HRA (Health Research Authority) announced that NRES (National Research Ethics Service) and MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) e-submissions work in IRAS had been put on hold pending further review. Since this announcement, work has proceeded on the interim IRAS release package described above and the HRA has announced plans for a feasibility study to test the potential benefits of a simplified and streamlined HRA assessment for all research in the NHS. Consequently, further decisions and announcements about these e-submissions will now be delayed until the end of November.
