JRO signs SLAs with UCLH departments in bid to cut approval times

29 May 2012

The JRO is to sign a service level agreement (SLA) with the pathology department at UCLH as part of an initiative to set up SLAs with all the main service support departments including radiology, nuclear medicine and pharmacy.

The aim of setting up the SLAs is to try and cut the time taken to get governance approval for research. R&D approval is only one aspect of the 30-day target for turning around a project and giving governance approval. A substantial proportion of the approval process lies with the support departments.

Reaching a robust SLA with these departments will allow us to set up clear processes for dealing with research applications and cut out any potential confusion between R&D, investigators and the support departments.SLAs will identify the services, process for requesting them and timelines. They will also address costing methodologies, capacity and monitoring arrangements.
