Research funding opportunities for nurses and allied health professionals

1 June 2012

Several new funding opportunities have been launched for nurses, midwives and allied health professions (AHP) wanting to combine research with clinical practice.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funding opportunities include Clinical Lectureships and Senior Clinical Lectureships which have been designed to support individuals committed to developing careers that combine research and clinical practice by contributing to their salary costs. Clinical Lectureship Awards also cover research project and academic training costs. Senior Clinical Lectureships are also open to healthcare scientists. Deadline for applications, which must be made by nominating institutions, is 1 August 2012.

The NIHR/CNO Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship has been designed for graduate nurses, midwives and AHPs who would like to obtain a PhD by research while still developing their clinical skills. The fellowship will fund salary, PhD tuition fees, a research project and training programme. Deadline for applications is 16 August 2012.

For more information about the schemes, go to the NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre website.
