New Research approval times

12 December 2011

Acknowledging the difficulties in accurately and consistently measuring timelines for approval of clinical studies, the NIHR has postponed the implementation of approvals timelines targets.

The NIHR's original plan had been to expect, from 1st April 2012, NHS Trusts to give NHS Permission for at least 80% of their NIHR Portfolio studies within 40 days and for Trusts to achieve a 30 day target from approval to first subject recruited. Despite the delays in national implementation, the Joint Research Office continues to monitor approvals timelines for clinical studies on a monthly basis so that all possible efficiencies can be introduced to our research management systems. Current timelines for approval can be found here. [http://www.ucl.ac.uk/jro/approvals/how-long-does-approval-take]
