Contracts: when and why you need one (or more) and who to ask.

When do you need a contract? Every time you exchange information, data or material, or enter into a working relationship with someone (a person, a founder, a charity, a pharma company etc) that is not UCL, you'll probably need some sort of written agreement.

Why do you need a contract? The main reason is to protect the academic and the university. To make sure you are covered on all fronts (publications right, data ownership, IP etc). It is also good that activities are well-recorded for future trackability.

Who to ask if you are in doubt? For UCL Queen Square IoN the person to refer to is Dr Antonio de la Plaza Larrea (Senior Contracts Manager) T: +44 (0)20 3108 7322 | Ext: 57322 | E: a.larrea@ucl.ac.uk
