A multi-disciplinary group researching brain tumour pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapeutics with an emphasis on gliomas and pituitary tumours.

Brain Tumour group

Research Team

Neuroradiology: Dr Harpreet Hyare PhD
Neurosurgery: Mr Hani Marcus PhD
Neurology: Dr Jeremy Rees MD

Research Goals

  • To develop novel, evidence-based imaging methods for improved non-invasive diagnosis, surgical planning and prognostication in patients with brain tumours.
  • To harness recent developments in technologies such as augmented reality, robotics and artificial intelligence in patients undergoing brain tumour surgery.
  • To develop multi-modal models in patients with brain tumours for individual-level treatment prescription.

Funded Research Projects

  • High Dimensional Modelling in Gliomas.
  • Predicting Response to Radiotherapy in Malignant Glioma using FAPI PET-MRI and Advanced Histological Methods.
  • Non-invasive quantification of Microstructure and Metabolic Microenvironment in Teenage and young Adult Gliomas Undergoing Treatment grant to develop DW-MRS in gliomas.
  • AID-PitSurg: AI-enabled Decision support in Pituitary Surgery to reduce complications.
  • Context Aware Augmented Reality For Endonasal Endoscopic Surgery.
  • Interchangeable handheld robotic instruments for keyhole neurosurgery.
  • Electrophysiological monitoring for the prevention of brain retraction injury in neurosurgery.
