About

The Ataxia Centre brings together best clinical practice and cutting edge research, in order to deliver the best possible quality of care and a coordinated service combining diagnosis, treatment, support and research opportunities to patients with ataxia. Our team is made of scientists and clinical researchers, working together to better understand the mechanisms underlying the pathology of the ataxias and how to develop more effective treatments for patients.

The centre is part of the Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The Centre was established in February 2005 by Prof Paola Giunti, in partnership with the patient organisation Ataxia UK. Based on her research studies for over 10 years before that, Paola Giunti developed a vision of a specialist ataxia centre, a model for optimal care and translational research.
