Biography
Silvia received the BSc and MSc degrees, both in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Bologna - Cesena, Italy, in 2013 and 2016, respectively. During 2015, she was a visiting student at WMN (Wireless Multimedia Networking) laboratory in Kingston University (KU), London. Under the supervision of Prof. Maria Martini, she carried out her Masters project, “Content characterization of 3D Videos”. In 2016, after a short visit to Kingston University to conclude the previous research, she started a five-months research internship at University College London (UCL) on the emerging 360-degree videos with supervisor Dr Laura Toni. In particular, she developed a novel model of navigation-aware adaptive streaming to allow these videos to be efficiently transmitted over YouTube, Netflix or other adaptive streaming platforms. In May 2017, she started her PhD at the department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL working on “Learning optimal streaming strategies for virtual reality applications”.
Her research interests are in the area of adaptive streaming for VR, multimedia processing, learning and optimization for future wireless networks.
