Postdoc Appreciation Week 2020

Last year, the UCL OD Innovation & Consultancy (InCo) team organised UCL’s first ever Postdoc Appreciation Week. It was held from 16-20 September 2019, with the main purpose being to celebrate the hard work and dedication of UCL’s early-stage research staff. The week comprised of fun, informal and informative activities. A wide range of activities took place during the week, in various locations throughout the UCL campus.

Even though National Postdoc Appreciation Week is scheduled to take place from 21-25 September 2020, we agreed to postpone UCL’s plans for celebrating Postdoc Appreciation Week until January 2021, due to COVID-19.

Therefore it is likely that UCL’s second Postdoc Appreciation Week will take place from 25-29 January 2021. We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the significant contribution of the research staff. It will also be an opportunity to build on a number of recent developments, from the virtual scoping session on reimagining the postdoctoral experience held by Wellcome and the Research on Research Institute organised with the UCL Doctoral School, the UKRI concordat action plan to support research careers and UCL Researcher Experience Strategy.

We will be seeking input from postdocs, early-stage researchers and researcher developers about the types of activities they would like to see during the week before deciding on the agenda for the week. In addition, we will be reaching out to Faculties and Departments to understand how they would like to celebrate and appreciate their postdocs and early-stage researchers, during this exceptional year.

We would love to hear your views to help shape and frame the content for UCL’s activities for its 2nd Postdoc Appreciation Week!  Please email Sheetal Saujani, Academic Development Advisor at s.saujani@ucl.ac.uk with any initial thoughts or if you would like to be involved in delivering any activities during the week.
