Partner Funds

A number of funding streams are available to support joint projects between UCL academics and those at UCL's key global partner institutions.

All 2023/24 funding calls are now closed. 

2024/25 funding calls will be shared on this page in due course.

Africa & Middle East

The 2023/24 funding call has now closed

Funds to support the development of emerging collaborations between UCL and Wits in all areas, and as a catalyst to enable UCL-Wits collaborators to apply for larger external funding. Further details tbc.

East Asia

UCL-Peking University Strategic Partner Funds

The 2023/24 funding call has now closed

Proposals of up to £20k are from all fields welcome but the following areas are particularly encouraged: climate change; mental health and wellbeing; intercultural understanding; other proposals relating to one or more of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

North America

Each successful proposal will receive up to £10k for UCL academics and up to $15k for U of T academics in teams led by early career researchers for one year of funding

Joint research proposals from Early Career Researchers (ECR) as defined by their institution.

UCL-University of Toronto Strategic Partner Funds (Strategic Challenges Fund)

The 2023/24 funding call has now closed

Each successful proposal will receive up to £40k for UCL academics and up to $60k for U of T academics over two years of funding

Scale up research activities aligning with UCL’s evolving Grand Challenges and the University of Toronto’s Institutional Strategic Initiatives

The 2023/24 funding call has now closed

UCL-Cornell Global Strategic Collaboration Awards (GSCA)

The 2023/24 funding call has now closed

Each successful proposal may receive up to the equivalent of $5,000/£4,000 from each university for a total of $10,000/£8,000

Support early-stage research projects or capacity-building efforts to create and sustain long-term collaborations.

Matched partner funds with European institutions are currently under discussion. Further details will be published here in the future so please keep an eye on this page or sign up to our mailing list.

Collaboration with European partners is supported by UCL’s Global Engagement Funds and applications for collaborations with European researchers and institutions have historically had high success rates.
