Programme Basics

How much does an MSc at the UCL GBSH cost?

All our MSc programmes cost £18,000 for UK students and £32,100 for Overseas students.

Is there funding available to support my studies?

Yes, UCL GBSH has a variety of scholarships available to support your period of study with us and UCL has more general fees and funding support, which you may be able to access depending on your circumstances and eligibility.

Programme Information

How long does it take to complete the programme? 

The three MSc programmes can either be studied full-time over 12 months or can be done part-time over 24 months. There is also a flexible option where it can be undertaken in a 3-5 year period.

How big are the classes?

Class sizes will vary from year to year, but on average, we expect around 50 students in each MSc cohort.

How many modules are there for this programme?

In each MSc programme, there are a total of 180 credits.

MSc Digital Health and Entrepreneuship: There are eight compulsory modules with a value of 15 credits each and two projects worth 30 credits each, one business focused and one research focused.

MSc Global Healthcare Management with routes: There are eight compulsory modules with a value of 15 credits each and two projects worth 30 credits each, one business focused and one research focused.

MSc Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management: There are six compulsory modules with a value of 15 credits each alongside one compulsory 30 credit module, and two project modules each worth 30 credits.

What is the difference between a dissertation and a research/business project?

Students enrolled on one of the MSc courses at the UCL Global Business School for Health will complete two 30-credit projects, as opposed to one 60-credit dissertation. In case of these 30-credit projects no individual supervision will be provided and students will be expected to complete their desk-based research individually or in groups, details of which will be provided at the start of the academic year.

Applications

What are the academic entry requirements for the MSc programmes?

For all three MSc programmes* offered: A UK upper second class degree (2:1) or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Graduates without the relevant degree classification but with extensive relevant work experience are welcome to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.

*Please note that for the MSc Global Healthcare Management with routes, applicants must apply to one of the specialism routes at time of application. The specialisms are finance, analytics or leadership. 

What do I need to include in my personal statement?

We recommened you include the following in your personal statement:

  • Why you want to study at graduate level and what your objectives are
  • What particularly attracts you to this programme of study (content and opportunities)
  • How your personal, academic and professional background has prepared and qualified you for the demands of this challenging academic environment
  • Where you would like to go professionally through and after this programme of study
What documents are required to submit my application?

There are several items to include with your application upon submission:

  • A personal statement 
  • One reference
  • Full academic transcripts
  • Application fee (£90 for online and £115 for paper applications)
  • IELTS English proficiency score (or other accepted English language proficiency score) - you can apply to the MSc courses without your IELTS, but you will only be able to receive a conditional offer until we receive proof of your IELTS score.

Is a GMAT score required?

No, a GMAT or GRE score isn’t required for any of our MSc programmes.

Is there an English Language requirement for this programme?

Yes, for the MSc Biotech and Pharmaceutical Management, applicants must have a IELTS at level 7.0 or above, with no area less than 6.5 in the sub-tests.

For the MSc Global Healthcare Management and MSc Digital Health and Entrepreneurship,  applicants must have a IELTS at level 6.5 or above, with no area less than 6.0 in the sub-tests.

You can apply to this course without your IELTS, but you will only be able to receive a conditional offer until we receive proof of your IELTS score.

Can I apply without submitting IELTS results?

Yes, you can. Whilst there are English language test requirements for the MSc programmes, you can submit your application without the test results. However, without IELTS (or equivalent) results, only a conditional offer will be made until you submit your IELTS results.

Can you tell me more about the application processing fee?

There is currently a standard application processing fee for this programme £90 for online and £115 for paper applications.

When do applications open?

The date for applications opening is October 2023 for those wishing to join a programme of study in the academic year 2023/24. 

When should I submit my application?

Applications are considered on a rolling basis and therefore may close earlier than the advertised deadline. As we expect to receive a large number of high quality applications, we advise that you apply as early as possible after the date applications open.

The application deadline has passed, can I still apply? 

It is not possible to submit an application once the application deadline has passed. Applications can be submitted up to 5pm (BST) on the deadline date advertised. If you have missed the deadline you would only be able to submit an application for the next admissions cycle which opens in the Autumn of 2023. 

Can I amend my application once it has been submitted?

No, due to the high number of applications we receive, we are unable to allow applicants to amend their application once it has been submitted. We therefore advise applicants to only submit their application once they have all the required documents ready.

When do applications close?

Applications close on 30 June 2023. However, as applications are considered on a rolling basis they therefore may close earlier than the advertised deadline.

When will I get a decision on my application?

We aim to make a decision on all applications within 8 weeks of them being considered complete i.e. all required documents are submitted, including the reference.

How many references to I need to provide?

You only need to provide once reference if you apply for a place on one of our MSc courses. Note: you may receive an automated message from the Application portal saying otherwise, if this happens, please ignore it.

I graduated a long time ago and am unable to provide an academic reference. Can I provide a professional one?

Yes, if you are unable to secure an academic referee, we will accept a professional reference.

My application has been rejected, can you reconsider my application?

In line with UCL’s regulations, decisions on applications are final, and there is no right of appeal against them. UCL will consider a complaint against any decision only if there is substantive evidence of an irregularity in the processing of the application in question.

Can I get further feedback on why my application was rejected?

The decision letter you receive from UCL Admissions will list a reason why your application was rejected. Unfortunately, due to the high number of applications, we are unable to provide further, individual feedback.

How many years of work experience do I need to have to be considered for a place if I do not have the relevant degree classification?

We would normally expect you to have over 6 years of employment in a medical or healthcare setting, which can include management and finance roles as well as clinical.
