ECON3013 - Industrial Relations II: Dynamic Industrial Organisation

Term 2



Aims:

This course will provide students with a framework for modelling and understanding the behaviour of firms in a dynamic setting.  Emphasis will be placed on intertemporal factors that influence firms’ strategic behaviour in imperfectly competitive markets.

Objectives:

  • To be able to analyze and construct models of firm behaviour incorporating dynamic considerations.
  • To be able to explain how such models may apply to various industries, and to be able to assess which models are most appropriate to illustate dynamic considerations in particular settings.

Assessment: This course consists of 10 2-hour lectures and 4 compulsory tutorial classes. All students are required to submit 4 pieces of coursework. These will be a mixture of essays and analytical questions. There will be a 2-hour unseen written examination in Term 3.
Suitable for:
3rd year Economics (L100) students. Also 3rd year Phil/Econ (VL51) and Math/Econ (G1L1/G1LC) students.
Prerequisites: ECON2001: Microeconomics (or equivalent).
