Types of programme

The Institute offers a range of degree programmes. For full details you should please consult the specific programme pages. The information below is intended only to provide a brief explanation of the different types of programmes available.

Part-time degree programmes

PG Cert / PG Dip / MSc

  • These programmes are designed with a limited number of contact days per year, to allow students’ to study for a postgraduate degree whilst maintaining work commitments.
  • Our distance-learning programmes have the fewest contact days, being delivered mainly online. Find out more
  • Contact days will be held at the Institute’s CPD facilities at 123 Gray’s Inn Road until the Institute relocates in late 2019. Find out more.
  • Some programmes also include the clinical treatment of NHS patients and this will take place in the new Eastman Dental Hospital clinical facility.
  • Students can choose to exit many of the MSc programmes at earlier intervals with a Certificate or Diploma, dependent on modules completed.
  • Application deadlines are usually in or around late spring of the year of entry, with programmes commencing in September. Restorative Dental Practice MSc is an exception, with an application deadline usually in October, for a programme starting the following January.
  • Some of part-time programmes are marked as modular flexible. These programmes are still studied on a part-time basis but students are able to take a break between years of study without the need to apply for an Interruption of Study. Students must complete the programme within 5 years of initial enrolment. The programme is structured in the same way as the part time option, all modules are compulsory and must be completed in the same order as those opting for the PT option. More information is available by emailing edi-admissions@ucl.ac.uk

Full-time degree programmes

MSc / MClinDent / DDent

  • Whilst some have part-time options, these programmes generally require a full-time study commitment in central London.
Find out more.
  • Application deadlines are usually in January of the year of entry, with programmes commencing in September.

Specialty Training

Endodontology / Prosthodontics / Periodontology

  • Previously, in addition to submitting an application to UCL Eastman, applicants for the Specialty Training programmes in Endodontology, Periodontology and Prosthodontics had to make a separate and parallel application to Health Education England (HEE). For these programmes, this is no longer the case with the exception of training posts funded by HEE.

Orthodontics

  • Recruitment to Orthodontic specialty registrar training posts is undertaken by London Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education. Full details are published on their website each spring,  as soon as they become available.

Read more about the Specialty Training process.

Advanced Training

Endodontology / Oral Surgery / Orthodontics / Prosthodontics

  • These programmes are primarily intended for international students who are not eligible to apply for HEE (formerly Deanery) specialty training programmes. The exception is the Prosthodontic Advanced Training programme which is offered to both EU/UK and other international students on either a part time or full time basis.
  • These MClinDent programmes are designed to provide specialty level training and to give eligibility to sit specialty level examinations. The specialty examinations are organised and managed by the Royal College of Surgeons. The eligibility for acceptance for specialty examinations is therefore not within our remit.
