Congratulations to one of our current MSc students, Tega Ayerume, who has received a bursary from UCL! We caught up with Tega to get their top tips on successfully applying for a bursary. Check out the tips below when applying for bursaries to help financially with your studies.

Find out more about the UCL Masters Bursary here.

  1. Start planning early. The application process for bursaries can be competitive, so it's important to start planning early. Begin researching bursary opportunities and deadlines as soon as you're considering applying to ICTM's MSc in Clinical Trials.
  2. Identify relevant bursaries. There are a variety of scholarships available for MSc Clinical Trials students, so take some time to research which ones are most relevant to your background, qualifications, and financial needs. Consider factors such as your nationality, academic achievements, research interests, and career goals.
  3. Strong academic record. Your academic record is one of the most important factors that bursary committees will consider. Make sure you have a strong undergraduate degree classification or GPA and a consistent record of academic achievement.
  4. Relevant research experience. Clinical trials are a research-intensive field, so demonstrating relevant research experience can strengthen your application. If you have any experience working in a clinical trials research lab, conducting your own research projects, or participating in research internships, be sure to highlight these experiences in your application.
  5. Clear and compelling personal statement. Your personal statement is your opportunity to tell your story and explain why you're a strong candidate for the scholarship. Be sure to write a clear, concise, and compelling personal statement that highlights your academic achievements, research experience, relevant skills, and future aspirations.
  6. Strong letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation from professors, research supervisors, or other professionals who can speak to your academic abilities, research potential, and personal qualities can significantly enhance your application. Choose recommenders who can provide specific and detailed examples of your strengths and accomplishments.
  7. Proofread carefully. Make sure your application is free of errors and typos. A well-polished application demonstrates your attention to detail and professionalism.
  8. Meet deadlines. Pay close attention to all application deadlines and submit your application materials on time. Late applications may not be considered.

Here are some additional tips that may be helpful:

  • Attend scholarship workshops or seminars offered by UCL or other organisations to learn more about the application process and gain insights from experts.
  • Network with current UCL students or alumni to get their advice and perspectives on bursary opportunities.
  • Utilise UCL's student support services, such as the Student Funding Office, for guidance and assistance with the bursary application process.
