Research by Dr Despoina Mantzari has explored issues of fairness in the EU and UK energy retail markets, where the topic has been underexplored and under-theorised. This research has three angles: Firstly, a theoretical one, which explores the institutional and substantive dimensions of the regulation/competition interaction in the European Union. Secondly, a novel conceptual framework exploring the interaction between competition law, economic regulation and consumer protection in the context of the EU retail energy markets. Thirdly, a policy-oriented one exploring the UK’s approach to retail price regulation, which has been published in the leading generalist journal Modern Law Review.
