Supervisors who wish to extend financial support to students for various reasons, using funds from discretionary accounts, will now have to obtain formal approval by graduate tutor →faculty tutor → divisional manager. The current framework specifies that approval should be sought 6 months in advance (which is arguably too excessive and will hopefully be shortened).
A special form which can be obtained from the postgraduate administrator (Manu Davies) needs to be completed and returned to the postgraduate administrator who will process it for further approvals.
A reminder that the department can contribute to stipend extensions on a case by case basis at the discretion of the graduate tutors (the normal contribution rate is 1/3 of the sum, with the rest 2/3 coming from supervisors’ resources).
