Engraving for Westminster Review

© UCL Bentham Project 2007

When Bentham died in 1832, Thomas Perronet Thompson, co-editor with John Bowring of the Westminster Review, commissioned an engraving to honour and commemorate Bentham. No information has yet been found about the artist, but the portrait of Bentham was probably taken from the Pierre Jean David portrait medallion of Bentham made in 1828 [catalogue no. 18]. The engraving appeared first in the edition of April 1833, and in subsequent editions until Thompson ceased to be editor of the Westminster Review with the final edition of January 1836.
