Development studies at The Bartlett

The Bartlett is the UK’s largest multidisciplinary faculty of the built environment, part of one of the world’s top universities, UCL. We are ranked number 1 in the UK, and 2nd in the world, for Architecture/Built Environment subjects (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021)

Our programmes in development studies help to strengthen the capacity of national governments, local authorities, NGOs, aid agencies and businesses working towards socially just and sustainable development in the global south.

We hope to enable people who are generally excluded from decision-making to play a full and rewarding role in their own development. We encourage our students to challenge orthodox development agendas; explore gender-aware approaches to development; promote strategic partnerships to integrate and inclusively manage cities and development; and support individuals, organisations, NGOs and public sectors who share this vision.
