Discover Chinatown Takeaways
19 November 2020
Even with lockdown restrictions, you can still try the many cuisines available here in the big city. Known for its variety of delicious Asian food, Chinatown is a real gem in London's food crown. UCL student Fion Cheng recommends her favourite eateries all available for delivery.
If you’re craving Asian food from home and looking to explore food and cultures from Asia, Chinatown is the place to order from!
Located in Leicester Square, Chinatown is home to more than 80 Asian restaurants, bakeries, and cafes.
I would like to share some of my favourite restaurants which offer a delivery service. Hopefully, it will help to make lockdown life a little bit more interesting and will give you some ideas of where to dine out after the restrictions are lifted!
Dozo Sushi
Dozo Sushi is a Japanese fine dining restaurant, serving traditional and innovative dishes. My favourites are the eel fried rice and the signature Volcano Maki.
Mamasons Dirty Ice-cream
Don’t worry, the ice-cream isn’t actually dirty. This Filipino traditional ice-cream parlour is famous for its instagrammable purple ube flavour ice-cream (made from purple Filipino yam).
Haidilao
This is a famous authentic Chinese hotpot restaurant, with branches across China, Asia and Europe. Haidilao Piccadilly Circus branch is the one and only branches in the UK.
On the Bab
A Korean street food restaurant that serves the famous Korean fried chicken (which you’ll be familiar with if you’re a fan of K-dramas), bibimbap, kimbap, kimchi fried rice and more!
Golden Dragon Chinatown
A Cantonese restaurant serving dim sum lunches and both Cantonese and Pekinese cuisine.
Bubble tea shops
Lastly, everybody’s favourite - the famous Taiwanese bubble tea! Bubble tea shops are scattered around London but the majority are located around Chinatown. Here is a few of my favourite shops and flavours:
As you can see, the new lockdown doesn’t mean you can’t still explore some new restaurants and delicious cuisines, even if it’s from your home!
Happy eating!
