Isobel and Lorena present at the 9th Blizard Institute HIV Symposium, June 2017
Towers lab members presented at the 9th Blizard Symposium at Queen Mary University. Isobel and Lorena gave talks on 'Mechanisms of HIV induced T cell death', and 'Evasion of DNA sensing by capsid distinguishes pandemic and non pandemic HIV' respectively, while Claire ('HIV-1 utilises CPSF6 and CypA in T cells to facilitate otherwise poorly efficient DNA synthesis'), Lucy ('Cyclosporine A Rescues a Type I Interferon-Induced IFITM3-Mediated Block to Viral Infection') and Katsia ('Structural Determinants of HIV-1 Pandemicity') gave elevator pitches in a session designed to allow scientists to demonstrate a snaphot of their work.
Both Lucy and Katsia won prizes for their poster presentations.
Outbreak! went to Gayhurst School in Hackney as part of their science week. Richard and Greg oversaw the diagnostic fun as children worked to diagnose and beat the outbreak before it spread.Hand prints from clean and dirty hands on agar plates formed part of another experiment run through the week showing the value of washing your hands.
