Support for students with poor academic practice or minor plagiarism

20 May 2024

Are any of your undergraduate or postgraduate taught students not using sources appropriately, such as poor use of quotations, paraphrasing and summarising? Staff can refer their students to training sessions run by UCL Academic Communication Centre (ACC).

The purpose of these sessions is to help students:

  • Understand the purpose of academic referencing and why it is important.
  • Develop the skills required for good academic practice.
  • Incorporate academic sources into their writing.

These workshops will run online throughout June and July and are offered by referral only. Staff members (e.g. module lead, academic misconduct panel) or the referred student  can book a place via the ACC Moodle pages.

The ACC will confirm with staff once the student has attended the session.  You can require the student to send you a certificate following completion of the tutorial.

Where a student is unable to attend a scheduled session, please direct them to this tutorial on good academic practice in using sources
