Staff Consultation on Extenuating Circumstances
4 November 2020
Staff are invited to share their views on UCL's Extenuating Circumstances processes. The consultation survey will close on Tuesday 1 December.
UCL has made a commitment within the Education Strategy, 2016-2021 to deliver more personalised and timely student support. As part of UCL's Student Support Review, a working group is investigating practical solutions to a range of issues – both to help students and to help departments support their students.
The group is looking at how to improve the Extenuating Circumstances process and wants to gather the views of UCL staff on a range of topics, from self-certification to the types of mitigation to appeals. All UCL staff are invited to respond to the consultation. A separate consultation is being developed for students.
Academic Services are also working on an online form and workflow which would join up to Portico, to make the process much easier to use. We will be contacting faculties, departments and students to help us design the system.
