Online Student Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ) templates now available

3 November 2020

Departments are invited to ask for set-up support for online SEQs by 20 November.

Three students on computers

Departments are invited to access and tailor two new online Student Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQs) templates in Moodle.

The online templates mean departments who usually run module evaluations on paper forms in-class can still provide SEQs for students learning remotely. Other departments can also choose to move their online SEQs to this UCL supported platform.

Departments who are satisfied with their current online SEQ platform (Opinio, Microsoft Forms, SurveyMonkey, etc.) or with existing Moodle SEQs are welcome to continue using them. It would however be useful if you can complete the form below anyway, so that we have a more comprehensive idea about what platforms are being used for SEQs at UCL.

For departments wishing to continue using other online tools, we would encourage you to include the core questions (see below) and review those in the question bank for inclusion in your evaluation.

About the SEQ templates

Online SEQs enable UCL to meet our quality assurance requirements and provide a vital Student Voice in a remote learning environment.

The SEQ project team have produced two templates on Moodle:

  • Core questions
  • Core questions and question bank

The five core questions can be used as a broad diagnostic tool and have been developed by the Harmonsing Module Evaluation project to be relevant to all modules. We would encourage staff to use these questions as a basis for their online SEQ, whatever platform they are using.

The second template includes the core questions plus a bank of frequently asked questions used widely across UCL. You can select additional questions from this bank in addition to the five core questions.

Either of these templates can be used as a starting point for you to add your own module evaluation questions (see the guidance document below).

Request support with setting up SEQs in Moodle

As part of the project, we can also offer departments support with setting up SEQs on Moodle.

To request support with setting up an SEQ template, please complete this form by 20 November. The project team will aim to complete the set-up by the end of November, ready for end of Term 1 evaluations.

If you have previously completed the form to request support with setting up an online SEQ, the team will contact you directly to arrange next steps; you do not need to complete this form again.

For departments who are happy to add the UCL SEQ templates on Moodle themselves, you can use this guidance document [Word] or watch the step-by-step videos:

We are currently developing some new best practice guidelines to support this.

Training

Training sessions are offered for those who are new to or have limited experience of Moodle.

To join the training, click on the link below at the time of your chosen session:

If you are confident with Moodle, you may prefer to use the step by step guidance document [Word].
