Do you teach a subject which may be emotionally charged for you or your students? Explore how to build appropriate relationships with students that support learning, allow for risk-taking and enable students to develop the emotional repertoires they will need in an uncertain future.

UCL Arena Centre are delivering this session, which is open to all staff at UCL who teach students or is a personal tutor. 

Students and educators need to engage in difficult conversations that are influenced by their emotion.

This interactive workshop will explore how to treat your emotions as part of your teaching toolbox. You will take part in activities that will engage your own emotions.

You will explore:

  • difficult conversations with colleagues and students
  • risk-taking
  • acknowledging your own emotions regarding certain topics.

After attending this session you will 

  • Understand what emotions mean for your teaching practice
  • Identify strategies for engaging your own emotions in teaching
  • Help students build emotional repertoires to support their intellectual and personal development  
  • Engage productively in difficult conversations

Who should attend 

You should attend if you are a member of UCL staff who teaches.  

Personal Tutors and early career educators will find this session particularly useful as an introductory session.
