UCL Arena Centre are delivering this session, which is open to all staff at UCL who teach and support students learning.  

In this session you will explore ways you can help your students improve their academic writing. 

You will cover five topics:

  1. Set clear expectations
  2. Set clear tasks
  3. Set frequent tasks
  4. Encourage peer review
  5. Offer individual tuition

This workshop will do this by:

  • reviewing what experts have said about how to help students
  • discussing examples of good practice
  • tackling a scenario
  • sharing your own experience of helping students
  • reviewing the resources on offer to you within UCL and beyond

After attending this session you will

  • understand how to support students with their academic writing
  • be able to devise writing tasks for your students
  • know where to access further support to help your students more effectively 

About the Speaker

Dr Nick Grindle (SFHEA)

Senior Teaching Fellow at UCL

Nick works closely with the Faculties of Arts & Humanities, Social & Historical Sciences, and SSEES. Prior to joining the centre in 2011 from UCL History, Nick had worked at the Open University and lectured at Oxford Brookes University, Imperial College and Birkbeck.
