UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science

Manish Chand joins the Division

30 June 2017

Please join us in welcoming Manish Chand to the Division  as Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon.

Manish said: "I am delighted to have joined the UCL Division of Surgery & Interventional Science, particularly at such an exciting time for the University. The UCL 2034 strategy is taking shape and with the imminent opening of the Wellcome EPSRC I believe there is a real opportunity for UCL to cement itself as one of the World's leading units in surgical research and innovation. I have been hugely impressed with the array of talent throughout the Division and I am looking forward collaborating with many of them.

As a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon specialising in minimally-invasive surgery and with an established track record of research in novel surgical technologies for colorectal cancer, I am hoping to be able to bring my experience to help drive the integration of complex imaging and cancer surgery. I see the future of surgery being far more multidisciplinary with specialists from diverse fields including engineering, robotics, imaging and surgery working synergistically. I further hope to use my collaborative relationships with other prestigious global institutions to promote the objectives of the Division and perhaps see exchange programmes for postgraduate students in addition to exciting research projects.

One of my new roles will be Director of the new Masters of Advanced Minimally-Invasive Surgery (MIS) and by compiling a multidisciplinary team of academics within and external to UCL I believe we have created one of the most disruptive, innovative and exciting surgery-based degrees on offer. No doubt there will be some teething issues but we are well prepared to make a real success of this and attract the brightest and best students from across the globe.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and thank you for the welcome I have received so far".
