From Research Questions to Publication: A Strategic Approach
Course Description:

This 1-day online workshop aims to explore useful habits and approaches which can help you increase your publication outputs. Learn how to build and manage your strategic research pipeline by increasing visibility and creating a stronger link between research ideas, publications, and funding. This workshop encourages participation and reflection and should provide good opportunities to share best practices.

  1. A researcher's "pipeline" is often described as the progression of papers from the research idea stage to the publication stage. This 1-day workshop has been designed to help early-career researchers and newly appointed PIs build and manage their strategic research pipeline. The workshop draws on some of the key findings of the research study "Becoming a PI"* in which 60 PIs (from three research-intensive universities) were asked to share their experience of getting the grant and acting as PIs. * McAlpine, Turner, Saunders & Wilson, 2016 (the course leader, Natacha Wilson, was part of the research team)

By the end of the workshop, you will have explored how to…

- Reflect on your achievements and the role of resilience 

-  Identify the elements contributing to developing a strong research pipeline

-    Prioritise your career pathways and work on your vision in research and beyond

-   Understand the need to identify what funders are looking for and keep up to date with your research field and trends

-   Explore successful processes which will help you manage your writing time and increase your visibility in your field 

-    Understand research impact and why it matters (academic, economic, and societal) 

    Build and maximise a strong network to foster collaboration and increase funding opportunities
