Professional Research Conduct and Behaviour (OD.RP.8953.02) 
Course Description:

The workshop is based around the UCL Framework for Research Integrity and uses the Dilemma Game featured on the website. Participants will bring their own experiences to the discussion and have opportunities to explore their own ideas and concerns about the elements of research integrity.

Course Content 

This session will cover:

  • Understanding what integrity means in our personal life and our research
  • Identifying behaviours that demonstrate integrity
  • The UCL Framework for Research Integrity
  • The elements of integrity
  • Beyond the framework: ‘doing the right thing’
  • Considering the range of situations in which we need to think about integrity
  • Understanding what happens when integrity is compromised: why do some people chose the dark side?
  • How to respond when you suspect misconduct

Objectives:

Learning Outcomes 

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain clearly the standards of personal and professional behaviour expected of you at UCL
  • Apply the question: ‘is this the right thing to do?’ to a range of situations in research.
  • Explain the UCL Framework for Research Integrity and apply it to your own research practice
  • Confidently explain how you choose to do the right thing in a range of research ‘dilemmas’
  • Identify situations where you personally feel under pressure and, through this self-awareness, maintain the UCL culture of integrity
