Research Project Management in an Uncertain World
Course Description:

This workshop aims to help you develop your knowledge of project management techniques and frameworks that can directly be applied to your research project and wider projects. This online workshop is highly participative and provides you with the chance to share best-practice.

Managing and leading projects is a key skill that can be developed and nurtured throughout one’s career. The workshop provides participants with the chance to focus on relevant project management tools and skills required to run successful projects in research and beyond. The course has been designed to help researchers and project managers enhance their project management skills in the context of their research and develop their knowledge of broader project management principles.  

Natacha Wilson, founder and director of Cambridge Insights, is an experienced course director and development consultant specialising in leadership and innovation in the context of research. Natacha gained multi-sector experience and worked in the creative and innovation sphere before moving to the University of Cambridge. She worked for the Business School and the Centre for Personal and Professional development on a range of leadership courses, skills development initiatives and impact evaluation. Natacha’s research interest focuses on identifying the skills, traits and conditions needed to become a successful leader in research and beyond. By the end of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Describe the Project management cycle  
  2. Identify key components of a project plan
  3. Identify critical success factors – and working through a pandemic
  4. Set SMART goals and prioritise
  5. Use scheduling tools (GANTT chart) and Critical path analysis (CPA)
  6. Prepare an Evaluation and review of the project (project health checks)
  7. Recognise Project management challenges and solutions in a COVID and uncertain world  (including risks)
  8. Work with peers and share best-practice
