DSD: Microsoft Teams Introduction (Prerequisite Course for Advanced Workshops)
Course Description:
This introductory course covers the essential basics of Teams and serves as the prerequisite course for the four more advanced, fast-paced Teams workshops:
  • Teams Workshop 1: Beyond Basics overview.
  • Teams Workshop 2: Managing & Participating in Meetings.
  • Teams Workshop 3: Document Management and Collaboration.
  • Teams Worskhop 4: Forms Polling in Channels, Chats and Meetings

This course is suitable for anyone who is either new to Teams or has been using it for a while but may have gaps in their knowledge or wishes to become more fluent with the basics. Features covered include an introductory look at teams, channels, tabs, meetings, private chats and working with files. The session includes time for hands-on practical work and Q&A.


Please ensure you are using Desktop@UCL or the UCL VPN when booking because you need to be on the UCL network to use the system.

Once you have enrolled, you will need to click on the play button under 'My current enrolments' in My Learning to join at the time of the live session. You will also receive an email from ISD containing the direct joining link a day before the session. Please check your junk folder as these emails are occasionally tagged as spam.

We would encourage you to join within the first 15 minutes of the advertised start time in order to test out their connection/audio. The actual session will start on the hour.
At the end of this course you will familiar with:
  • Advantages of using Teams,
  • Channels and private channels,
  • Tabs in a channel, e.g. for a document, wiki, etc.
  • Posting messages, formatting, @mentions,
  • Private chats
  • Meetings
  • Working with files basics
  • Activity pane
