DSD: Styles and table of contents in Word - Demo
Course Description:

Have you spent hours formatting Word document headings and manually creating and updating a table of contents? This session will demonstrate how to use styles to format your headings and how to create an automated table of contents which can be updated in seconds. Also, applying styles is one of the most important features to use when making documents more accessible.

Once you have booked on the course you will be able to access all of the online materials in our Digital Skills Development Moodle course.

IMPORTANT:

Please ensure you are using Desktop@UCL or the UCL VPN when booking because you need to be on the UCL network to use the system.

Once you have enrolled, you will need to click on the play button under 'My current enrolments' in My Learning to join at the time of the live session. You will also receive an email from ISD containing the direct joining link a day before the session. Please check your junk folder as these emails are occasionally tagged as spam.

We would encourage those who are new to Microsoft Teams to join within the first 15 minutes of the advertised start time in order to test out their connection/audio. The actual session will start on the hour.

  • Different methods for applying inbuilt styles Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.
  • Modifying styles,
  • Creating and formatting a table of contents,
  • Setting up documents with numbered headings,
  • Styles and the navigation pane (navigating and restructuring order of chapters),
  • Creating styles.
Intended Audience:
This overview demonstration session is aimed at those wishing to understand how to use styles effectively. It will be particularly useful for anyone working with long documents or dissertations or is learning how to make documents more accessible.
