DSD: Read&Write: Text-to-speech software - an overview
Course Description:

Read&Write is text-to-speech literacy software that makes text more accessible. It is helpful for people with dyslexia, visual stress and for those for whom English is not their first language. It reads aloud Word, PDF and web pages and has an ICR facility to scan in documents to be read. It also has various grammar and spelling tools, research tools as well as study skills support functionality.

PREREQUISITE If possible, but not essential, download the Covid time limited copy of Read&Write from: Free Assistive Technology. Alternatively, check you can accessRead&Write via Desktop@UCL Anywhere prior to the session.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure you are using Desktop@UCL or the UCL VPN when booking because you need to be on the UCL network to use the system.

Once you have enrolled, you will need to click on the play button under 'My current enrolments' in My Learning to join at the time of the live session. You will also receive an email from ISD containing the direct joining link a day before the session. Please check your junk folder as these emails are occasionally tagged as spam.

We would encourage those who are new to Blackboard Collaborate/Microsoft Teams to join 15 minutes early in order to test out their connection/audio and help will be offered to sort out any problems. Participants are welcome to join any time within the first 15 minutes of the advertised start time. The actual session will start on the hour.
By the end of the course you will be able to understand the functions of this program including text to speech, study skills, and creating sound files.
