DSD: Photo editing with Pixlr X - Workshop
Course Description:

Pixlr is a popular photo editing web-based tool which can be used with a free account. This workshop focuses on Pixlr Express (Pixlr X), the version recommended for beginners and beyond. It comes packed with both basic and advanced editing features but is designed not to overwhelm. Features include working with layers, cutting tools, highlights and shadows, retouch tools, effects, liquify, templates, text and various other elements.

In this introductory workshop we will work on several image projects and experiment with a wide range of tools.

PREREQUISITES:

We recommend that you attend our Basic Image Editing Using Free Tools demonstration session before attending this course as it will give you the opportunity to become familiar with the following theory and topics:

  • File Types,
  • Image resizing and resolution,
  • Creative commons licenses,
  • Free image sources.

IMPORTANT:

Please ensure you are using Desktop@UCL or the UCL VPN when booking because you need to be on the UCL network to use the system.

Once you have enrolled, you will need to click on the play button under 'My current enrolments' in My Learning to join at the time of the live session. You will also receive an email from ISD containing the direct joining link a day before the session. Please check your junk folder as these emails are occasionally tagged as spam.

We would encourage those who are new to Microsoft Teams to join within the first 15 minutes of the advertised start time in order to test out their connection/audio. The actual session will start on the hour.
Objectives:
By the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Create and manage layers,
  • Crop and resize,
  • Add text and other elements, such as other images, overlays and borders,
  • Adjust colour, saturation, temperature, exposure, highlight, blur, toning, etc.,
  • Use the cutting, liquify and retouch tools,
  • Apply effects,
  • Save as various file types,
  • Use Pixlr templates.

This course is aimed at those who wish to learn to manipulate images with one of the popular free web-based image editors.
