Impact Beyond Academia
Course Description:

An informative workshop which explores UCL’s institutional role in creating impact beyond academia. Participants will be introduced to the role of impact in the REF (Research Excellence Framework), opportunities for impact-enabling funds at UCL and beyond, and the tangible outcomes which have emerged to help address global challenges.   

This session will Introduce:
 • Engagement & Impact elements of the Research Excellence Framework 2028 
 • How UKRI and related funding bodies represent and interpret research impact
 • Institutional impact: how UCL’s strategies and focus (SDGs, Grand Challenges) supports impactful research and engagement 
 • Funding opportunities for impactful research and engagement
 • Tangible examples of real-world impactful research and engagement from UCL

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
 • Understand UCL’s institutional role in generating impact beyond academia
 • Understand how to utilise research impact to strengthen funding bids within and beyond UCL
 • Find and explore inspirational examples of impactful research from UCL, REF, and funding bodies
