The Writing Series: Advanced Voice in Narrative Writing
Course Description:

A highly interactive, three-hour, face-to-face workshop for experienced researchers and academics who want to identify and develop their own writing voice, especially in narrative texts.

This session will cover:

  • What is meant by a 'writer's voice' and why it matters.
  • The factors that contribute to a writer's voice.
  • The personal versus the impersonal voice.
  • Putting yourself into the text: appropriate voices for personal and reflective narratives.
  • Techniques to help strengthen your individual voice.

Please note: participants should already have acquired basic writing skills in either humanities or science disciplines. The emphasis on narrative renders it unsuitable for purely technical or scientific writers.

  • Develop a lively writing style that speaks to the reader.
  • Create academic capital when reflecting on your own practice or experiences.
