The Writing Series: Choosing a Journal Suitable for Your Research Manuscript
Course Description:

This course belongs to 'The Writing Series: Writing and Publishing a Research Paper'. It provides practical information on how to choose a journal for publishing your research, considering specific possibilities and needs.

This session will cover:

  • The audience of a journal
  • Impact metrics
  • Open access
  • 'Megajournals'
  • Getting published faster
  • 'Predatory' journals
  • Preprints

This will be a live, in-person session. It is a theoretical and practical course with several interactive moments. You will be encouraged to discuss and ask questions. Please bring your laptop if you can.


Objectives:

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Evaluate your priorities when it comes to publishing your paper
  • Be aware of the limitations of relying on journal impact metrics alone
  • Know the options available to you for your paper, which may be broader than you thought
  • Know how to search for journals and narrow down your choices to a few suitable ones
Intended Audience:
This course is suitable for researchers at all levels, including those who are starting to write their first paper for a journal and those who have already written and published several papers. It can be taken by researchers in all areas of academia but the examples used are mostly from science, technology, medicine and social sciences.
