PROLang represents all interdisciplinary language-based area studies research and interests across all departments at SSEES.
SSEES offers 18 languages of the region, through our degree programmes and language short courses. Our research is supported by the SSEES Library, one of the major research libraries covering the whole of the Central and East European region, alongside Russia.
PROLang aims to strengthen, further promote, and influence policy on East European language-based area studies through seminars, talks, workshops, projects and an international biennial conference. PROLang also collaborates with other relevant institutions such as Institute for Languages, Cultures and Societies, Chartered Institute of Linguists, British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies, University Council for Languages, All Party Parliamentary Groups, PLIDAM Paris, seeFField project at Regensburg University and other universities and bodies that share our aims and increase the esteem of SSEES as a global leader in language-based area studies.
We run twice termly seminars on a wide range of topics. We are involved in outreach and widening participation projects, as well as research. We represent PGR and students’ ongoing research through dedicated presentations.
We welcome proposals, collaborations and contributions from everyone.
