Research summary

Ramona's research interests lie in the area of language acquisition in general, but also specific to Romanian language, in digital education and cultural identities. 

Ramona has completed and is working on a variety of linguistic and educational projects,  both offline and online, such as the Flexipacks,  ProeLang and Romanian online.

She has also contributed to the UCL Language Trails project and teaches regularly in UCL summer schools.

Ramona is always looking for opportunities to collaborate across Europe and beyond as well as  within UCL, in order to advance educational resources and learning outcomes for students. 

In her role as the Academic Coordinator for SSEES Language Short Courses, she is interested in material development for language teaching and immersive practices. Her team received a Commendation for their teaching provision from CIOL in 2020.

Teaching summary

Ramona is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in Romanian language (BA, MA and short courses). 

She is a co-founder of the PROLang interdisciplinary research group for language-based area studies and  seminar series.  

She co-teaches in the Languages in Contact course as well. 

Ramona also teaches practical seminars for CENTRAS in specialised Romanian language, such as Dubbing, Voiceover, Subtitling, Medical and Technical Romanian.

She is also the Academic Coordinator for the SSEES Short Courses Programme. 

She is a cultural adviser on Romanian language and cultural matters for a variety of institutions in the UK.

Biography

Ramona has gained a BA and an MA in Romanian and English at  University of the West, Timisoara, Romania, after which she gained a MA in Adult Learning at UCL (2011) and has later gained a PG Diploma in Digital Education with the University of Edinburgh (2015). 

She has completed several training courses and certificates relevant to her professional activities with prestigious institutions such as the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), International House, CEELBAS, CETL and many more. 

Ramona is the co-author of Colloquial Romanian ,4th edition (2012), Routledge, together with Prof Dennis Deletant and the sole author of Romanian an Essential Grammar, 2nd edition (2007, 2020) Routledge.

Ramona is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and has received the Order for Cultural Merits in Promoting Romanian Culture and Language Abroad (2018).
