Primary and secondary sources

  • 1918 Transilvania 100+ project provides access to digitised publications, archival documents as well as artefacts and museum documents.
  • Bucharest Digital Library - Romanian periodicals available freely in digital format from the collection of the Bucharest Metropolitan Library.
  • Byzantion - A selection of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine manuscripts available in a digital format.
  • Fototeca - Online Photo Collection of Romanian Communism  - A large Romanian database containing photos from 1921 to 1989. The collection is curated by the National Archives of Romania and the Institute of the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania.
  • Institute of Cultural Memory Digital Library provides free access to publications of the historical and archaeological research, carried out by the Romanian specialists from the mentioned fields.
  • The Library of the Romanian Academy provides access to a number of digitised bibliographies, such as Digital retrospective national bibliography which lists books published between 1508-1918, also some virtual exhibitions, as well as several digital collections, including the Archive of Traian Vuia, a Romanian inventor and aviation pioneer who constructed a first monoplane, and Orghidan collection of Transylvanian coins.
  • LiterNet – cultural portal provides complete catalogue and access to e-publications of LiterNet Publishing, including some publications in English. Also sections on the cultural agenda and Romanian writers, as well as access to Romanian Online Literature Magazine.
  • Lucian Blaga Central University Digital Library includes digitised rare and old books, manuscripts, periodicals, iconographic material as well as books and reprints held in its collections. Items are selected publications that are relevant for the history of Cluj-Napoca and Transylvania, as well as publications in high demand.  
  • The Medieval Archive of Romania - Digitised medieval documents from the National Archives of Romania. Contains documents issued up to 1600, regardless of the preservation form, which are in the repositories of the National Archives and in other archives of Romania.
  • Memoria - Digital library of interviews, memoirs, oral history studies, books and images of Romania's recent history.
  • Mihai Eminescu Central University Digital Library provides access to Library's collections in digital formats. Holdings include digitised books, reprints, documents and periodicals, as well as digital-born materials, allowing free worldwide access to heritage and research collections.
  • The National Archives of Romania  - Electronic services portal that can be used to navigate through fond descriptions and the collections of the territorial structures of the National Archives of Romania, including browsing through certain digital documents.
  • The National Film Archive - Romanian Cinematheque provides access to selected films excerpts from its collection, also small selection of film posters. Access to 12 documentary and feature films from archive’s World War One collection provided through EFG1914 project.
  • Romanian National Digital Library  - Contains wide variety of digitised documents such as manuscripts, old and rare books, periodicals, stamps, maps, photographic material from the collection of the National Library of Romania, as well as documents originally published only in electronic format.
  • Transilvanica Digital Library provides access to digitised collections of books, manuscripts and periodicals whose author is of Transylvanian origin, or those that were written or published on the territory of Transylvania. Also includes The Transylvanian School Digital Library.
