About the qualification
The Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification (WBQ) is an overarching qualification incorporating traditional academic study, such as GCE A/AS Levels, NVQ, GCSE, as well as key skills, personal development and social issues.
Students are awarded either an Intermediate or Advanced Diploma. The Advanced Diploma is normally two years in length and is available for post-16 candidates. It requires successful completion of the core elements (key skills, personal development, social issues and an individual project), plus an optional component of 2 GCE A-Levels (or the equivalent*).

AAA | Successful completion of the WBQ Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate plus 2 GCE A-Levels, at grades AAA |
AAB | Successful completion of the WBQ Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate plus 2 GCE A-Levels, at grades AAB |
ABB | Successful completion of the WBQ Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate plus 2 GCE A-Levels, at grades ABB |
Please note that the A*A*A requirement has only been approved for the Mathematics Department.
*The following subjects offered by WJEC are vocational qualifications and not acceptable for admission to UCL:
